“Education and Training is the Bridge to Success”
Welcome Message
Dear Friends of Vocational Education & Training, I would like to welcome you to the new edition of the
KIST VET-Newsletter, and talk about:
The Contribution of Education and Training to the Knowledge Society
How do people acquire this knowledge and what is our contribution to this
knowledge society?
i.
Create a positive and innovative learning and development
atmosphere for education and training so that people have an
easier and effective access to knowledge:
There are many possibilities of acquiring knowledge. A good basic education
and life long learning are necessary for everyone to learn how to acquire
knowledge in many forms. The integration of basic qualifications with personal
development (key qualifications) are the most important building blocks of any
expertise oriented education. Emotional intelligence has at least the same
value as a high IQ in professional competence.
In the basic approach of the “new, cooperative and competence oriented learning” the requirements
for self acting, independent, self dependent acquisition of knowledge are basically stipulated. It should
also be possible for people to learn at their own pace, self determined and with enjoyment. A free,
open and humane society needs open humanistic, educated, tolerant, liberal, and confident people.
Life long learning is the basic requirement for further development.
Conditions must be created in which people like to learn by involving themselves in practical life and
economic experiences, where knowledge can be acquired and simultaneously be put into practice.
Learning by doing is the best way to acquire knowledge (training enterprises, production schools, and
training workshops for example).
Activity oriented educational concepts and education according to
“personal requirements” can lead to a full development of potential as well as a positive expansion of
knowledge.
According to professor Dr. Dr. Manfred Spitzer, director of the psychiatric university clinic
in Ulm, emotions are fundamental parts of thinking and learning. “Fear and creativity eliminate each
other”. More can be grasped with positive emotions than through negative or neutral ones. Those who
learn with enjoyment, learn better.
The access to knowledge is necessary to enable people to obtain the tools, and the implementation.
Emphasis should be placed on promoting creativity through music, theater, art and culture, as well as
dancing etc. Knowledge through intercultural learning should be promoted,
and knowledge transfer
with and/to other cultures should be facilitated. Language education is also a necessary requirement.
An integrated development requires an integrated education and further education of body and soul.
People with disabilities should be integrated into all learning and working processes. Special attention
should also be placed on gender mainstreaming.
